In the present work we will approach the importance of the informed consent being this a commitment established, between patient and dentist during the
clinical relationship, in particular in orthodontics and orthopedics. In particular we will analyze the implication of the informed consent being the culmination of the self decision of the patient, besides this reason it has to be put in practice because of many reasons, among them and principally because it is a right of the patient and a duty of the dentist, reaching with this consent to a respect of the dignity and freedom of the patient,
creating a communicative space in which the veracity and trust should be the basis of the relationship. It will be analized specifically the regulation which in Uruguay is in the law 18335. The aim of this work is to explain the concept of the informed consent, rights of the patient, professional responsibility, dentist-patient relationship.
