Orthognathic Surgery for the Resolution of Class III Malocclusion with Skeletal Open BiteDiagnosis, Treatment Decision, and Treatment Progress.

Abstract

A 16-year-old male patient in the prepubertal stage, presenting with Class III malocclusion and skeletal open bite, sought treatment to improve his aesthetics and orofacial function. The patient exhibited respiratory dysfunction as well as dysfunctional chewing and swallowing. A surgical approach involving the maxilla was selected—without extractions—utilizing a surgical splint fabricated in-house.
The pre- and post-surgical clinical stages are described, along with the case outcome and long-term follow-up.
